We all get scared, and yes, we experience fear. But what's the difference between regular fear, and anxiety? Well, think of anxiety like a ceiling that's leaking. It doesn't get better over time, it worsens. In the case of anxiety, what worsens is the constant thought patterns of fears/worries, and having to deal with the symptoms of it.
So here are 3 signs of anxiety to look out for:
1. Perfectionism
Perfectionism is linked to anxiety because the foundation of perfectionism is a desire to avoid making mistakes. Let's be honest though - mistakes, errors and failures are common in life.
2. Rapid heartbeat Anxiety sets off the body's “fight or flight” response as part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). When you feel uneasy about a situation, your ANS kicks in, increasing your heart rate. If you're doing something that requires a certain level of physical effort, then it's normal to have your heart beating faster. If you've just woken up, and notice your heart is beating rapidly, this is a good indication to look into an anxiety screening.
3. Stomach issues When we're anxious, "stomach tightening" may occur and this is what we commonly refer to as a nervous stomach. Anxiety can upset the delicate balance of digestion which can cause bloating, constipation, diarrhea, a loss of appetite, or unnatural hunger.
